Stock Market Closed
I opened up Yahoo! Finance this morning to find that the markets are closed today in observance of President Ford's funeral. I understand that it is considered normal for the markets to close in "honor" of the passing of Presidents, but seriously, "WTF?!?"
It's the first business day of 2007 and most of America is working (or at least making an attempt to work) - not mourning a dead President. Also, did you know that this four-day break marks the longest U.S. stock market hiatus since 9/11?
Though I am little surprised to see Wall Street once again in bed with the State (spooning and whispering sweet nothings, I'm sure), seeing such ostentatious pandering at play still rubs me raw.
Anyone else eager to see how this Rube Goldberg-esque mouse trap of a market plays out in 2007? Let's get it started already!
