What would you do?
Catallarchist Jonathan Wilde recently posed a question that hits at a problem that has weighed heavily on my mind these past few months:
At some point in the future, the majority of US voters come to believe passionately in communism. As the presidential election approaches, all polling data points to a probable win by the communist party candidate. And I don’t mean ‘communist’ like Barack Obama or George W. Bush, but rather, a real red-tempered communist like Fidel Castro.
As a person who believes in liberty and markets, what is your best course of action?
Assassination? Spurring revolution? Creating/promoting an opposition party? other?
My own approach to the general underpinnings of Wilde's question centered around the present day state of the United States: what is the best course of action for one who demands liberty but lives in an increasingly State-controlled land?
The discussion that ensued from Wilde's hypothetical appeared to reach a consensus: get out as fast as you can. The only remaining question is, "Where do we go?" Popular answers: Ireland, New Zealand and Iceland.
So what would you do? And if you'd leave, where would you go?
